M. Blake Heath is the lead trial attorney for the firm.  He grew up in the small town of East Prairie, Missouri and attended Westminster College for his undergraduate degree. Blake received his law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City where he graduated cum laude. During law school Blake served as a Notes & Comment Editor for the UMKC Law Review. He was also on the Executive Board for the Ellison Moot Court Competition, and was a legal intern for the Honorable Duane Benton on the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Blake has dedicated his career to representing individuals injured by others’ negligence.  He has experience helping clients in complex personal injury suits, product liability claims, medical malpractice lawsuits, insurance coverage disputes, and class action litigation.  Blake understands that each case comes with its own unique circumstances and most clients have never faced severe injuries or the loss of a loved one due to someone else’s conduct.  To help assist clients through the difficulties of personal injury litigation, Blake maintains a constant line of communication so the client always knows what is going on with their case.

Blake completed the Ross T. Roberts Inn of Court Program in 2010, and has been involved with the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Associations Public Service Committee.  Blake also successfully completed the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Leadership Academy.  He remains active with UMKC School of Law through his work organizing the Pat Kelly Memorial Scholarship Poker Tournament held at the UMKC School of Law each year.

Blake is active with Legal Aid of Western Missouri.  Blake was one of the founding members of the Young Professionals Board for Legal Aid of Western Missouri and served as president of the organization for three years.  Due to his work on the Young Professionals Board, Blake was asked to serve as a member of the Board of Trustees for Legal Aid of Western Missouri where he was recently elected as Secretary for the organization, and he chairs the Board Development Committee.  In addition, Blake serves as an Election Commissioner for the Kansas City Board of Elections.   Blake was appointed to the post by Governor Jay Nixon in 2010.

Blake has taught numerous CLEs on a variety of topics through UMKC School of Law, the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys and the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar.  Blake also contributes frequently to the Missouri Bar Journal with various scholarly articles, which can be found at the following link: articles.

Because of his work in and out of the courtroom, Blake has received several distinguished awards.   Blake was named by Missouri Lawyers Weekly as an Up & Coming Lawyer.  The award is handed down by the editorial staff of Missouri Lawyers Weekly to those attorneys that have demonstrated excellence and the potential to make a difference in the legal profession and community.  Blake has also been honored as a Rising Star in Missouri and Kansas by Super Lawyers.  Only 2.5 percent of attorneys are recognized as Rising Stars.

When not at work, Blake enjoys spending time with his wife Sakinah and their twin girls, Elizabeth and Noah Brooke.
